15 June 2024

On International Day of Women in Mining, celebrated on June 15th, we honor the incredible strength, resilience, and contributions of women in the mining sector. Women in mining face unique challenges that often go unnoticed, yet their contributions are essential to the industry’s success. Despite progress in gender equality, women in mining continue to encounter significant health risks. Exposure to hazardous substances, physically demanding labor, and insufficient access to healthcare services are just a few of the occupational hazards that disproportionately affect women. Additionally, women often face gender-specific health issues that require tailored solutions.

The Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health – Africa (COEHA) is dedicated to the wellbeing of all women at work, with a special focus on those in the mining sector. We are committed to providing comprehensive occupational health services, promoting corporate wellness, and offering education and training to ensure that women in mining can work in safe and healthy environments. On this day, we honor the women who tirelessly contribute to the mining industry and reaffirm our commitment to improving their health and safety. Together, we can build a future where every woman in mining can thrive, knowing that her health and wellbeing are prioritized and protected. Happy International Day of Women in Mining!
