The “Occupational Health: An Overview for Healthcare Workers in Qatar” event aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the occupational health sector within Qatar. Attendees will gain insights into the current state of occupational health in Qatar, featuring a keynote address by Mr. Nasir Jaham AL Kuwari, former CEO of QCEM, who will provide an overview of the occupational health landscape in the region.

Dr. El Nagieb, Chief Medical Officer of COEHA, will deliver a lecture on the fundamentals of occupational health, discussing key concepts, challenges, and advancements in the field. Additionally, a mental health specialist, Dr. Shabab, will address the critical issue of mental health at work, offering strategies for creating a supportive work environment and promoting psychological well-being among employees.

SPEAKERS

DR. OMER EL NAGIEB, MD MSC FFOM

CONSULTANT OCCUPATIONAL PHYSICIAN

Dr El Nagieb is a senior consultant in occupational medicine with more than 20 years of experience across the full spectrum of occupational health.

He graduated from the University of Khartoum and trained initially as an orthopaedic surgeon. He completed his accredited training in occupational medicine through the Faculty of Occupational Medicine London and the University of Manchester, obtaining a Membership of the Faculty and an MSc in Occupational Medicine from the University of Manchester. He worked across the full spectrum of OH in the UK before moving to the Middle East – the UAE -Abu Dhabi.
He established the modern OH services for the oil and gas industry and played a major role supporting education and training in OH in the region; using his position as an Honorary lecturer in Occupational medicine with the University of Manchester.
He was awarded the Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine London to acknowledge his efforts in training and education in Occupational medicine.

Dr El Nagieb returned back to the UK to lead the OH service for the London Fire Brigade as the Chief Medical Officer. He worked with colleagues to revise the fitness standards for recruitment and retention in the fire and rescue services in the
for the Brigade.

Dr El Nagieb served as the Federal Minister of Health for the Sudan and remained in the job until November 2021. During the tenure of his role he worked with colleagues and international health partners to rebuild the health system and
promote and expand OH in the Sudan and the region. Dr El Nagieb; with colleagues has founded the Centre of Occupational and Environmental Health – Africa to continue the ambitious program of expanding OH in the continent through education, training, and basic OH service provision.

 

DR.SHAKER LASHUEL

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF GLOBAL STUDIES INSTITUTE

Dr. Shaker A. Lashuel is the current executive director of the Global Studies Institute. Before joining GSI, Dr. Lashuel worked in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as the Scientific Support Program Manager at AlMuallem Center for Knowledge and Education, overseeing funding for higher education initiatives and institutions within and abroad.

However, it was in New York City where Dr. Lashuel initially launched his education career in 1996, working for the NYC Department of Education for 15 years. It was during this time that he taught science and technology while holding training and administrative-based roles at the school level. In 2009, he joined a district-level team that supervised and supported teaching and learning across district schools.

Dr. Lashuel has written several articles and books, including Improving Education: Practical Field Applications and Assessment Literacy for Educators in a Hurry, both published by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States. He also contributed to a book on the Houthi movement in Yemen and co-authored one on professional learning communities. In Qatar, he has promoted professional development programs, including Al applications in education. His academic background includes a bachelor’s in Geology (Brooklyn College), master’s degrees in science education (Long Island University) and school management (Moreland University), a Harvard certification, and a doctorate in educational technology (Pace University).

MR. NASSER JEHAM ABDEL-AZIZ AL KUWARI

FORMER CEO OF QAFAC AND QCHEM

Mr. Nasser Jeham Abdel-Aziz Al Kuwari is a distinguished leader in the Oil & Gas and Petrochemical industries, with over 30 years of expertise. He has served as CEO of both Qatar Fuel Additives Company (QAFAC) and Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem), leading these organizations to new heights. In addition, he has held numerous board positions across major oil and gas companies in Qatar, where his strategic vision and leadership have had a lasting impact on the industry.

 

MR. MOHAMMED SHBEB

CERTIFIED TRAINER IN MENTAL HEALTH AND PATIENT SAFETY

Mr. Mohammed Shbeb is a certified trainer specializing in mental health and patient safety.He focuses on improving the mental well-being of healthcare professionals and implementing occupational safety standards in healthcare environments. With extensive experience in delivering training programs aimed at enhancing mental health in healthcare institutions, he also ensures patient safety. In addition to his training expertise, Mohammed plays a key role in quality auditing and risk
management, contributing to the overall quality of healthcare services. He is currently employed by the Ministry of Health in Qatar.
